How to Reset a Dishwasher — Every Major Brand
A reset fixes electronic glitches: frozen panels, blinking lights, stuck cycles, phantom error codes. It does NOT fix broken parts — if the problem returns after a reset, the underlying component is failing. Here's how to reset every major brand. Still stuck after this? A One Dishwasher Repair WA — (253) 549-3002 — we fix what resets can't, same-day across Washington.
Soft reset (cancel the cycle): clears the current cycle and glitches. Hard reset (breaker off 5 minutes): drains residual power from the control board and clears deeper electronic faults. Always try soft first, then hard.

Soft Reset vs. Hard Reset
Brand-by-Brand Reset Instructions
Bosch: Hold the Start button for 3 seconds to cancel and reset. For a hard reset, turn off the breaker for 5 minutes.
Samsung: Hold Start for 3 seconds. For blinking-light issues, do the hard reset (breaker off 5 minutes) — this resolves the infamous blink about half the time.
LG: Press and hold Start for 3 seconds, or turn off the breaker for 5 minutes. For IE/OE codes, also check the basics (water supply on, filter clean) before resetting.
Whirlpool / Maytag / KitchenAid / Amana: Press Heated Dry → Normal → Heated Dry → Normal within 6 seconds to enter diagnostics (lights will cycle). Or press Cancel/Drain twice. Hard reset via breaker for stubborn issues.
GE / Hotpoint: Press Start/Reset once to cancel. Hold for 3 seconds on some models. Breaker-off hard reset for frozen panels.
Frigidaire / Electrolux: Hold the Cancel button for 3 seconds. Hard reset via breaker if the display is frozen.
When a Reset Won't Help
Reset and the problem comes straight back? That's a failed part talking:
- Blinking returns → control board or UI panel
- E15 returns → active leak (see our Bosch error code guide)
- Won't drain after reset → pump or blockage
- Dead after reset → thermal fuse or board
That's when you call (253) 549-3002. $89 diagnostic, waived with repair, same-day across Washington.

Reset FAQs
Will resetting delete my dishwasher's settings?
No — resets clear the current cycle and glitches, not your settings.
How often is it safe to reset?
As often as needed for glitches. But if you're resetting weekly, something's failing — get it diagnosed.
