Dishwasher Not Drying Dishes? Here's What's Wrong
You open the door and everything's damp — water pooled on top of every mug, plastics dripping. Drying problems are annoying but very diagnosable. Here's the checklist, simplest first. Need a tech anywhere in Washington? A One Dishwasher Repair WA: (253) 549-3002.
The #1 cause, full stop. Rinse aid makes water sheet off instead of beading. If your dishes suddenly stopped drying, check the rinse-aid reservoir first — it's empty more often than people think. Refill it and set the dosage to max for hard water areas.

1. You're Out of Rinse Aid
2. Wrong Cycle / Heat-Dry Off
"Eco" and "speed" cycles often skip or shorten heated dry. And many units have a heated-dry option that's toggled off. Check your settings before anything else.
3. Failed Heating Element
If rinse aid and settings are right and nothing dries — not even the hot items — the heating element (or heat pump on Bosch models) has failed. You'll also notice the sanitize cycle never completes. Element replacement is a standard repair.
4. Vent Fan Not Working
Many modern dishwashers (especially Bosch with AutoAir/CrystalDry and similar) use a fan to vent steam. A dead fan = a sauna inside = wet dishes. You might hear the difference: the end-of-cycle used to have a fan hum, now it's silent.
5. Thermostat / Sensor Issue
The unit "thinks" it's hot enough when it isn't. Less common, but we see it — usually alongside other weird behavior like cycles ending early.
6. Plastics Will Always Be Damp
Physics note: plastics don't retain heat, so water won't evaporate off them the way it does off ceramic and glass. If only your plastics are wet, your dishwasher is fine — that's normal. (Unload the bottom rack first so water pooled on mugs doesn't splash the dry dishes below.)

Dishwasher Drying FAQs
Why are my dishes still wet with heated dry on?
Heating element failure is the most likely cause — followed by a dead vent fan.
Do I need rinse aid if I use pods?
Yes — pods clean, rinse aid dries. They're different jobs, especially in hard-water areas.
Drying issues often go hand in hand with poor cleaning performance — our annual maintenance addresses both in one visit.
